Little is known about this house other than it first appears in county records around 1900. Since being built the house has been owned by the L. H. Smith, Clayton, and Gay Families. It is a good example of the Pioneer Classic Box style of building. It has symmetrical windows with two windows per floor on each side. Originally the house had turned posts supporting the front porch and an enclosed rear porch. Mary Clayton purchased lots across the street to the south for the addition to the community church.
