History
The Des Moines Historical Society was founded by Melanie Draper and Joanne Smith. It was incorporated on September 20, 1978 as a Washington State Non-profit Corporation.
Governance
The Des Moines Historical is incorporated as a not-for-profit Washington state corporation. Detailed information about how the Society functions is contained in our Bylaws. The Society also qualifies as a tax-exempt organization under §501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. Donations to the Society are deductible from federal income taxes to the extent provided by law.
