Historical context
DMHS’s History Quilt says the Skrondals arrived in 1924, rented “The Gables” from Mr. Barnes, built a store across the street in 1932, bought The Gables in 1942, retired in 1950, and that the building burned in 1952.
Research note: The legacy popup says the store was built circa 1924 and cites a 1946 Seattle Daily Times sale advertisement. The DMHS History Quilt independently confirms the Skrondals began renting The Gables in 1924 but does not establish the building’s construction year.
